# How to close the Tax Year in FreePayroll?

Once you’ve processed the **final payroll of the current tax year**, you’ll see a prompt at the top of your dashboard (see screenshot below) allowing you to **close the tax year**.

Before confirming, you’ll need to:

1. **Verify all payroll data is accurate**—ensure everything is correct before proceeding.
    
2. **Acknowledge that once submitted**, the tax year will be finalised, and no further changes can be made to payroll data for that year in FreePayroll

After closing the tax year:  
✔ The first payroll period of the **new tax year** will automatically appear in your dashboard.  
✔ You can continue running payroll seamlessly—no delays, no fuss.
